Acolytes assist in worship by carrying the processional cross and candles, lighting candles, holding the Gospel book, holding candles or “torches,” handing the offering plates to ushers, assisting the deacon or priest set up and clean up at the altar, and other tasks as seen fit by the priest or acolyte leader.
