The Spiritual Journey Committee hopes to offer a variety of programs for Christian education and spiritual growth. To make the programs meaningful to you, we heartily welcome your input and suggestions.
Our programs for the fall …
New Bible Study Series begins on September 26, and will meet on Sundays 3-4:30 pm
This fall our new Bible Study Class will be reading and discussing The Gospel of John. This interesting study group is open to anyone who wants more insight into the Bible – whether new to the Bible or a veteran. The series will cover 21 lessons, and be led by Lynne Thomas. As with the Book of Acts study series, Lynne has authored the fascinating study guide book. If you want to have more understanding of the Bible, this is the group for you! (There will be no class the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s or Concert Sundays.)
Cost: $25 per person, which includes the study guide book. (Scholarships are available.)
Quarterly Book Group meets on Saturdays at 10 am:
- September 11: When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Harold Kushner.
This meaningful work of faith has been an international bestseller for 30 years. While this clergyman author lived through a ten year family ordeal, he asked the universal question, “Why?” until he finally came to see God “as never before – a God who does weep with us, won’t abandon us, and can fill the deepest needs of an anguished heart.”
- November 13: The Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall.
This book is based on the true story of an unlikely friendship told by two men – Ron Hall, a self-made millionaire and Denver Moore, a Black man raised in poverty in the Deep South. Ron, at the insistence of his wife, reluctantly volunteers at a homeless shelter, and from there the relationship begins. This story shows us “the difference one life can make and keeps us thinking about what it really means to be a Christian.” Sometimes the answers are different than you think.
Embracing Faith and Prayer meets every Wednesday at 10 am. Led by Lynne Thomas, we will continue to study effective prayer, developing faith and spiritual healing, looking at their application in our daily lives. Everyone is welcome.
