This Week's Inspiration

The Rev. Andrew McGowan, writing on our Gospel passage, “The widow’s gift in the temple”

“We do not know what happened to the widow at the temple; the story ends with Jesus praising her generosity. We do know what happened to him. He does not need our coins or our bread, but we need his. He calls us, persistently and urgently, to serve and share with him not with our goods, or not our goods in themselves, but with ourselves. Jesus needs nothing more or less from us than “everything we have, everything we have to live on” — and promises in return true bread, and a life that cannot be bought.”
